Garden Weekend!

With temperatures in the 80s during three-day Easter weekend, Victorian in Bloom (we need a shorter nickname, ideas?) got pretty on the outside. I added a flower bed out on the front – unfortunately for my future vegetables this is where we get the most of sunshine. Now as soon as the city removes this eyesore that unceremoniously appeared in the middle of the night last week, I may also plant some flowers around the tree.

The backyard was where we did the most work – digging up a bed for vegetables and herbs, probably about 12 inches deep. There was so much glass and plastic! I tried to weed out as much as I could but there is still plenty left, I am sure. Hopefully additional soil and compost will help. The vines are really by far the worst offenders though – they are everywhere – they even ate one of the two trees in the backyard. I personally think they are gross. I added cardboard to the bottom of the bed to prevent re-growth, we will see if it works. Oh and if that wasn’t enough, we also have a million squirrels and alley cats that love to dig in the flower boxes – I did some research and found a possible solution– cayenne pepper on top of the soil, cross fingers it works.

And finally, the indoor plants were repotted and now should be happy for some time!
