Moving day – It’s a bit insane to close on a house on Thursday, and move on Saturday. Meaning celebration, packing, and cleaning has to happen in the space of well really just 36- 24 hours. The planning was actually all there, it’s just that the closing didn’t quite work as we expected. We are still deliberating whether we will be posting about our house search process…but here’s a short re-cap of what happened:

We went under contract, and had our closing scheduled for a month – Friday March 5 – from then. But then Snowmaggedon happened, delaying the appraisal of the house. (Bank won’t lend you money unless the appraisal is cleared). We got the news about 10 days before scheduled closing that in order to clear the appraisal, we needed to: waterproof the basement, re-glaze and re-grout the tub, re-point the house, among other things. Closing was moved to Monday, and we actually got the repairs done, which was not fun under that deadline. Meanwhile, we gave our notice to the apartment management that we would move out in 10 days (we had a tenant lined up to take over our lease). On March 8, we showed up all ready to close, only to have a major mistake by the settlement company delay us to Thursday, March 11. A lot of nerve cells later – here we are: Saturday, March 13 moving day!

Posting about taking down fake walls -which we did the next day- and a surprise that we discovered after the plaster came down to come soon.
