Exotic destinations and their wares: Rugs

We have a very exciting trip coming up in the next few months – Morocco. With an eye towards that, but also thinking ahead of all the other travels that I am sure we will be doing, I have been studying up on the oriental rugs. I am kicking myself for not acquiring a rug when I was in Turkey a few years ago – but back then I had not a clue of what to look for and no spare funds to spend (doing slightly better on both fronts now).… Read the rest

BAM! map

with all the time i spend these days in thrift stores and flea markets, its obviously hard for me to resist picking up an extra good treasure when it surfaces. such as this one:

The National Geographic 1966 Map of Asia. $14, Ruff and Ready.

Sergey says that the water damage looks like the iron curtain from the cold war.

S Novym Godom!

Happy 2011! happy new beginnings :)

Since we have been on a kick with a year of firsts, we decided to do VIB’s own holiday card. The house pictures from last year’s snow storm were perfect, and after choosing one, we sergey used photoshop to enhance the image to make it look as if it were painted.

Frame It

I was super proud of Sergey when he was asked to design posters for the annual Climate Rally concert on the mall. So I got three of his posters framed (I think the plan is to rotate the three different prints in this spot above the kitchen table).

 

Even those the posters were standard 11 X 17, apparently there are no mattes and frames that are pre-made.

My next thought was getting a custom frame, which would have been a very nice way to show Sergey that he is awesome.… Read the rest

Kitchen fabric wallpaper idea came to me via this AT post, as we needed something to cover up a giant patch over the stove that was left after Sergey removed the range hood. (Btw – the wall actually had a hole left from where the range hood was attached, which Sergey fixed using a piece of the drywall -left over from fake wall demolition– and some putty.… Read the rest
